Force resigning

Fuck man, I was just playing against this guy, a nice game n' shit, and my connection got lost, and when I came back the fucking sissy force resigned me, when I was in a winning position, and it wasn't more than a few minutes. How can we stop this from happening? it's terribly annoying, I lost like 20 points in there. Fuck.
But what kind of rules are those? I mean, how much time do I have for coming back from resetting my modem before some patzer takes my points away? can't we at least let the computer look if I have some winning advantage so the other guy have to wait for me? even in chess.com you have 5 minutes to get back into the game if you disconnect.
We should extend that. 3 minutes with the technology we have here in South America aren't enough many times. 5 could make it.
I think it should be in relation with the time-length of the game you're playing.

If you're playing a one minute game, it wouldn't make sense to have a five minute 'return' time. It should be more like 20 seconds.

If you're playing a ten minute game, it shouldn't be 20 seconds, nor five minutes, but three.

If you're playing a [...] game, it should be [...] and so on. All in relation. I have no ideas as to what each should be specifically, but that's how I'd do it personally.

But yeah, a bad internet connection sucks.

A computer can't tell the difference between a bad internet connection and somebody deliberately ditching a game because they've lost it. I had one the other day where I had mate in 2, the person realised that and left the game - didn't close it but let the clock run down. It was a blitz game, so not that inconvenient - this has happened to me in a 10+0 game though... but there is no way of preventing such things yet, I think.
I can understand you plight. However, I have had several games in which I was in a winning position and my opponent just acts immature and leaves the game. So, there I am waiting ... to claim my win. It is done out of spite sometimes I believe! It is a necessary rule to prevent such a thing from occurring. Sorry that good people such as yourself are affected.
Yeah it happened with me........... I had a winning position, and my opponent simply left the game! I had to wait for 10 mins!
A computer can't know the reason why you disconnected, but it can tell if you have a winning position or not. Programming and magic are essentially the same to me, but I imagine that we could have a system in which, if you leave, after 3 minutes the computer checks the position, and if yours is bad then the other guy can force your resignation, and if you are doing well he'll have to wait.
It's not like we can't play simultaneous games on this site, if the other player left because you had it won and you know it, then start another game and he'll eventually lose.
