The new cosmetic changes to the board are ugly and take away from the simple look that has served lichess well in the past.
In particular, it seems the colors and fashion of colors behind recent moved chess pieces is annoying and frankly hard to see. Sometimes I don't even know when the opponent has moved. I suggest switching back to the old colors as well as instead of having an ugly box, use the old fade style.
I agree with Loltoyou about cosmetic changes. And now i have to activate "allow pages to choose their own fonts" in FF to be able to see the new "icons".
And one auestion more. I use "Leipzig" piece set, by modifying the "sprite.png" in css. I saw what you are not using it anymore, instead load the single pieces. Can i create new piece set, or will it be changed soon?

I am with the above guys. Particularly on the board, the new 'highlighters' of previous moves are distracting with those strong borders. I miss the good green highlighting :)

To do this, we've had to drop practically all PNG images and use custom fonts and SVG images instead. This is because custom fonts and SVG images are vector graphics, which means they are scalable to all different resolution screens.
Personally, I think that the highlighters are near a non-issue. They're likely only distracting because they're different and new, you probably won't even think about them after a few games.
We're still working out some details on the theming, stay tuned.

The simple graphics are one of reasons I was staying on Lichess.. you are ruining it. Stay different, if you become like the others.. the others have much more to offer.

They even removed the option to set your board color scheme on preferences. Really sad moment for lichess users.

@mindfreak look at the top right of the webpage while you are in a game, it says "color", you can select the colour scheme from there, just like always.
Functionally NOTHING has changed due to the last update, only the aesthetics.
